Sew By SO Is Busting At The Seams

SewBySOA year ago Sharleen Odell followed her heart and talent and opened Sew By SO after retiring from the insurance business after 25 years.

That’s not to say that sewing and quilting hadn’t been part of her for many, many years. In fact, she taught classes in Farmington, New Mexico for six years before a series of serendipitous events led her and her husband Jube to relocate to Cortez.

Her sweet shop not only offers classes for the following:

  • Sewing
  • Quilting
  • Long arm quilting
  • Embroidery

Sharleen has now expanded her space and does alterations, custom clothing, embroidery for businesses, offers fabric, notions, quilts and a variety of handmade gifts.

With almost 2,000 square feet to work with, she’s got plenty of room to teach, which is something she is visibly passionate about. She’s happy to teach anyone with a desire to learn, from kids to grandmas. This “Jackie Of All Trades” wants to be known for her knowledge and is always looking for ways to share it with the local community.

If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind gifts for the upcoming holiday season, you’ll want to stop by and check out all that Sew By SO has to offer. They are located at 117 N. Pinon Dr. and can be reached at (970) 570-5057.

Congrats and here’s to many more prosperous years Mrs. Odell!

I was looking for a part-time job and noticed that you had requested help in the past. I’m thinking of moving from Minnesota to Cortez in the next year or so. Might you be looking for help in the future (can you tell at this time?) I currently work full-time for Walgreens and will most likely transfer to the store in Cortez when they have an opening and I’m ready for the move. I stopped in your store recently on a visit to the area and liked what I saw. Looking forward to your reply.
